Default recommended strings on martin 000

I replaced the strings on my 000 with martin SP's and I think I dont like them.

Does anyone know what the recommended string gauge is on a martin 000?

I wanted to try some of the Elixir HD's that have thicker high strings, but the low E is a .53 and I think the 000 had lighter guage when I bought it.

thanks

I would try 12 gauge elixirs first. HD set is really made for taylor guitars to address brightness that is usually associated with taylor tone. Thicker strings add more fatness.

000-what? Different alloys suit different woods differently. <G>

Martins are generally good to mediums. There may be a stamp on the inside of the back brace or neck block inside the guitar.

I use lights, or 12's on my Martin 000's and OM's usually Martin Lifespan, or D'Addario's.

Different models came with different strings at different times. The most lightly braced 000 made in modern times is the 000-18A, with 1/4" Authentic pattern braces. It shipped with mediums, so I would have no fear using mediums as far as tension goes.

I much prefer the sound of uncoated strings. Never met a coated string I could tolerate. These are my preferred string, from brightest to darkest sounding - D'Addario J-17, Martin 550, and John Pearse 700M. Or the 80/20 versions of each.

Cool Recommended string for Martin 000?

I own several 000 guitars, and use different strings on each. For the Martin 000C Nylon cutaway with electronics, I use La Bella 900 Golden Light Nylon Elites. On my Martin 000-14 Custom acoustic, I use Martin "Silk & Steel" lights. On my Recording King ROS-06 FE3 (000-12 fret) I use D'Addario ECG24 XL Chrome Jazz Light flat wound strings, to accentuate the bass response. And, I converted another Recording King ROS-06 FE3 for nylon strings. La Bella 710L light tension ball-end "Folk" strings, because it has a pyramid pin style bridge. That pretty much covers it.

Tundra, most players use light gauge strings on Martin Triple O's, but those guitars will also handle medium gauge strings just fine. I prefer medium gauge John Pearse 80/20 strings on my rosewood 000-42, and medium gauge John Pearse phosphor bronze strings on my walnut Larrivée OM-03W. But if a .053 low E string seems too heavy to you, you're not going to want a set with a .056 like the two sets I just mentioned.

I will say that I prefer 80/20 bronze strings more often than not on rosewood guitars, and phosphor bronze strings most of the time on guitars with backs and sides made from other tonewoods. You should try both alloys just to get a sense of which sound best to you on that guitar.

Hope this helps.
