Default RIP Roger Whittaker

Just read this on the news: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-66843162

I must have been weird as an early teen as I loved his music. It wasn't something to broadcast about when everyone else was into post-punk, NWOBHM and new wave. This one remains a classic.

Classic Ralph Mctell tune - love Tony Rice's version too.

He had a great voice - I remember hearing The Last Farewell when it was out and - like you I found myself enjoying it very much.

RIP - you gave us some nice music.

Talk about a golden baritone voice! I remember when "New World In The Morning" came out. Loved that song and "The Last Farewell".

I still play The Last Farewell. I have the greatest hits album on cassette tape somewhere and may have to fire it up today. Yes I still have a cassette deck.

Yes, I liked to listen to him as well. I was just never sure if he had really been an actual popular singer or just that his album was being pushed on TV (like Esteban or Slim Whitman). I dont think I ever heard him on the radio or TV before those endless commercials for the album.

My parents played his albums when I was growing up so I heard his nice tunes as part of warm memories… rest peacefully sir.
