Rather ironic that he passed away on the Labor Day weekend.

This one hurts. While he didn't have alot of chart hits, he leaves a huge hole... millions have loved his music and his shows for decades. Also a highly underrated songwriter IMO, especially his older stuff.
He's off to that "One Particular Harbor". RIP Jimmy, and thanks.

It's going to take days to play all the buffett songs I know.
My wife and I lived on a sailboat for 5 years. Jimmy was a constant on the stereo. I'm a month younger than he........Just no words. Fair Winds Captain.

I was eating my cereal this morning when I saw the news - almost couldn't keep it down.
I think Jimmy literally saved my life back around '80 - his music had just captivated me in a way that others had not. I'd seen him 3-4 times already by that time and was a full on fan of the music and the Buffett life philosophy. In the mid nineties I was playing 3 hour sets of his music for the Michigan Buffett Fan Club - Fins to the North. I dug deep into the album tracks and man, did we all have a great time. This loss has impacted me about the same as when Chapin died (on my birthday, no less) The two wrote the music I was feeling, and did it incredibly well. There are millions of very sad Parrotheads this morning, and the world just won't be the same with him gone. He gave us hope that we were more normal than we really were. I'm quite confident there's an island reserved for the man in heaven.

Sad news… he was a big part of the music scene here in Florida, especially in the Keys, Hogs Breath Saloon etc… I perform for two Parrot Head clubs here and I know they’re saddened yet will some wonderful tributes to him.

If you have never seen this - do yourself a favor.
I believe this was Jimmy at his peak - best band, playing the best of his early work.

Best concert I've ever attended was Newport Folk with Buffet as the headliner.
We're having Cheeseburger in Paradise tonight.

The world was so much better for having Jimmy's 76 year visit and he left us a wealth of music to mark his place in it. Oh man, say it ain't so...

A Buffett concert was always way more than a concert. Get there early. Parking lot full of tiki bars, hula skirts, coconut bras, and of course, margaritas. People from 18 to 80 all having a great time. Beach balls being volleyed around all night during the show. Everyone singing along to every song.
Great entertainer. And had great business instincts as well. Margaritaville became an empire. RIP. You grew older but you never grew up. |

Terrible news.
He is now Defying Gravity, and the Parrotheads will be out in force the next few evenings. |
