Car shopping....what a zoo

Even though you can't use the tax credit for EVs on a hybrid (maybe a plug in hybrid might qualify), the regular hybrid will still save you money in the long run. We have a Hyundai Tucson hybrid and get between 38 and 41 mpg on a regular basis, driving a lot of highway miles every other week. If I'm just driving locally without highway miles, I regularly get 40+ mpg. What a difference between this car and our previous one (ICE) that only gave us 28 mpg at its very best.

But when I do buy a car I usually buy something high end that I really like and then drive it for 15 to 20 years. I rarely log less than 150,000 to 200,000 miles before selling. I live in California, so things like rust are a total non-issue.

Rust?
I live in Ohio …lots of salt on the roads in winter and the only vehicles I see with rust on them are at least 30 years old and there aren’t many of those left.
Rust hasn’t been an issue with cars for quite a while.

Well,I live in Ohio and see lots of rust.especially underneath the vehicles.brake lines,exaust.And well under 20 years?

Agree. Northern Indiana and they put salt down way too often. I see rust on cars that are only a couple years old. It usually starts at the pinch areas of the door skins, hood, trunk, tailgates. These areas are often overlooked when washing but can trap the salt/ water mixture and then the rust starts leaching out under the finish.

I don’t see any of that on cars built since 2000,
…well maybe GM stuff.
