CNET has a “How to choose the best dash cam” article that offers suggestions on what features you should consider for your needs. I found the article on a google search.

I have used CNET for guidance on a digital camera purchase and was very pleased.

I’ve had a couple. After doing a lot of research I currently have a Nextbase 622GW hardwired into my car. I’ve had it just over a year and have been pleased with it.

I am contemplating the purchase of the Vantrue OnDash N4.
I want coverage from both front and rear.

Mine has a plug-in for rear view which I installed. I think of dash cams kinda of like car insurance…I hope I never need it but would be useful if I do.

The closest I’ve ever come to “using” it was when a semi came within inches of running over a guy on a bicycle. That would have been a video to fuel nightmares.

Good plan. A couple of years ago I started researching dash cams and wouldn't you know it, I got T-boned at an intersection, flipped the car up onto the passenger side all kinds of people rushed over to push it back upright and my wife & I got out.

Nobody stuck around, police and ambulance arrive, my wife get taken to the hospital and police question myself and the other driver.

The police officer comes back to me a bit later and asks if I had a dashcam, told him I was researching them but hadn't purchased yet, he told me "get one", as they could not determine who was at fault and with cam footage there's no mistaking the facts.

Was gifted a Type S 4K dash cam setup that Christmas, it works great, and you can add a rear cam if desired. Don't know if it's what I would have chosen but it's an easy install, I can pull the memory card and view on my laptop, or use the app through my phone, images are decent quality.

I had a client who was charged with Reckless Driving for doing 77 in a 35. Fortunately he had dashcams fore and aft. They showed him pulling out on a 5 lane arterial, and then a -like sports car similar to his come up behind him, they both turned right onto another 4-lane that drops into a valley and up a steep hill on the other side. The other car moved into the left lane and blew my guy's doors off, rocketing up the hill on the other side. Unfortunately of of the sets of headlights belonged to a state trooper. You could see him turning around at the bottom of the hill in the rear cam. Then he disappeared behind the brow of the hill, where my client changed lanes to the left as he was hanging a left at the next light. So when the officer came steaming up the hill my client was now into the lane that the fast car had been and the officer had not seen the lane change.

Search for a camera application specific to your year/make/model. I expect more options will be available in the future from other after-market sellers.

This Fitcamx version fits into the existing mirror area electronics. The system takes power from the rain sensor. If your model doesn't have power here, it would have to be wired from another source.

This photo shows an Audi installation. I hard wired a rear camera from the front camera.

Very nice! I think that will be my next dashcam.
