Default What Happened to “Tips?”

Guitar playing “hacks”.

I guess the word “tips” went the way of the wallet.

Everything is a "hack" now.

I hate that term. I think I've officially reached "get off my lawn" stage.

Tips are still alive and well up here, mostly. We never did all that well with tips but I still see the jars out there and the really popular (talented?) players seem to get their tip jars filled. The real players that do this a lot also have Venmo accounts set up for virtual tips.

I'm sick of the modern "cute" words, titles and names now days. It comes across as cynical in a vail of charm.

Oh, very. I teach high school.

I was told that I had that drip a few weeks ago when I showed up in an Adidas track suit. Some things are always cool, I guess.

Oh yeah, "side hustle" is another irritating one.

Back in my day, a hustle was usually something fun and illegal. Now people are like "my side hustle is training puppies!"

I don't like tips when you stop at a small store for a 6 pack and your card swipe asks 15% through 20% but no one really helped you. On Sunday I saw and bugged the owner of that firm to pay first line workers a living wage like my employer does.

Our time in the sun has passed…we are, at best, “cute old folks”, which is OK with me. It is a relief to sit on the curb and watch the parade, rather than being in a costume and waving to everyone as you danced along.

Change is hard and fighting it is futile. Just go with it. At our age we don't want to waste what time we have left getting upset over nothing. They are just words.

Words do matter. They are not 'just' words.
