Default Where do you record?

I've finally found a home for my recording stuff in my basement. Quiet. Wondering if I should get an area rug though.

Besides the rug, and maybe some ceiling treatment, you may want to try it with the gobos behind you, not behind the mics. Just a thought.

I literally record in my "bedroom studio"
Standing about 7-8 ft from recording desk

From the camera position looks like this

Well it could depend on how far the distance is from your back to the wall behind you (I assume from your other thread the stairway wall) Possibly because the mics (if they are cardioid) are picking up from the front of the mic) which is facing away from the absorbent gobos so the gobos are only slowing down the reflections coming off the wall behind them, which are coming towards the off axis (back side of the mics). Which was why I suggested (in your other thread ) another alternative of leaving the gobos where they are and simply rotating your chair and mics 180 degrees so you are facing away from the gobos and that near corner ...or getting more absorbers to go in the corners of the stairway wall
AND I would also consider possibly setting up in the center of that wall behind the gobos as opposed to the corner of it (which may be more of concern with mixing position with speakers than recording position ) but worth a try

The only reason My desk is in the corner (which I don't really like) but I don't have room for any other position

Because the microphone(s) aren't picking up much of what is behind them (unless you are using omni pattern). A gobo behind your seat can block reflections going straight into the sensitive part of the microphone.

Hi Kev, no the stairwell is to my right. The wall behind me is about 15 feet away. I have the gobos there to stop the guitar from rebounding off the wall in front of me.

OK good I would still try rotating 180 and centering on the wall And yes a thick throw rug ----(and a lava lamp which will improve the room acoustics by 20 % )

Love your doors trim. Also, is that white oak flooring?

A reflective ceiling and floor that are parallel to each other can be a problem so I added ceiling absorbers.
Here is a picture of one end of the room from a number of years ago. Added more panels since then.

Here is another bizarre contribution to the "Where do you record?" question.

I accidentally found that one of the best environments for doing quick non-reverbirant recordings is my little basement man cave area that has all my stuff set up for almost instantaneous recording. This area is small and is jam-packed with stuff stored on shelves and just general clutter. It has Exposed floor joists at the ceiling and a thin rug over concrete for the floor.

The diffusion presented by all this "stuff" around me is a different way of handling the "live room" dilemma, but I encourage anyone who has a similar situation to try it out.
