I'd consider buying but the safety deposit boxes in my bank just aren't big enough to keep it in.

That's roughly what I paid for my Hummingbird, J-45, and HD-28 combined. I would rather have these three versus one that is super expensive.

Since it’s still there I’d say it’s not a 10k guitar yet. Maybe it will be but I doubt it.

The idea is to shop for $10,000 and then buy at $5,000. Then you can say "Look honey, I saved us $5,000!"

I did. It got a very quiet & short round of applause along with a very sarcastic look on my wife's face.

I did get a nice guitar though

Not to bash My ex home state, but keep in mind, They are in CALIFORNIA which is one of the most expensive states to do business in. Everything costs more, and having been a scenic artist there, I can tell you that anything that gets sprayed??? The AQMD makes it extraordinarily cost prohibitive. I don't know if that is in effect where the build them, but in general it is a tough place to manufacture AND keep costs down.

I wonder what his scrap value was?

Julian Lage also has a 1954 Telecaster and a Manzer archtop. Priced one of those lately?

I love Santa Cruz guitars. But their pricing jumped the shark a decade ago. It's nuts.

Is their business hurting as a result?

There was an episode of Happy Days in which Fonzie jumps over a shark while waterskiing. “Jumping the shark” became a metaphor for a desperate attempt to revive ratings, and “jumped the shark” took on the meaning of irretrievable decline.
