There is a subtle difference between pure nickel strings like the EJ22 and monel strings. Monel is a bit harder and, to my ears, has an "edge" compared to pure nickel. So, if you use monel but want to go just a shade darker, and bring out the bass a bit more, then pure nickel strings are worth a try.

I will have to try that. I'm all in for Monels on my mahogany top Guild, but they seem a bit brash on my maple bodied guitars.

I have been following this discussion with a lot of interest. With the exception of the D'Addarios (I've never cared for any of the brand), I use and like every Monel brand available on all of my mahogany guitars. I have finally found my favorite, however. Unquestionably, Curt Mangan ROUND WOUND Monels have all the tones and feel I have been looking for and will continue to use them in the future. They are warm , easy to play, and last a long, long time.
