Default Teach Your Children

Here's a simple tune trying out a new recording technique. Inspired by this video from Neumann, here's my attempt at recording the elusive "single take" for acoustic guitar and vocals. Unfortunately I only have one Figure-8 mic (Warm Audio WA-47Jr) but the Berhringer ECM8000 (which I've had for over 20 years) worked out ok for the guitar mic. Now I'm shopping for another Warm Audio microphone to do the whole Figure-8 thing properly.

Both mics into my SSL2+ ----> MacBook Air/Logic.

Video from my iPhone 12 Pro Max, all put together in iMovie.

Here you go....

NICE job!! Some vocal elements in there that I haven't heard in your earlier pieces.....I think this song hits a bit of a sweet spot for you!! A nice touch to go lower with "don't you ever ask them why"....and kind of stay in your vocal lane!

I know a lot about those elusive single takes! Ha Ha! No pressure, right? But you really got into it and brought it through nicely.

Thanks for listening! Yeah, my vocals are certainly my weak spot but appreciate your comments on them.

I was actually trying to record Tom Waits' "Day After Tomorrow" and I kept flubbing it (lots of verses) so I just gave up and decided to do Teach Your Children since I can pretty much sing this one in my sleep.

Enjoy your evening!

I gordon,
Love the sound of your set-up!
Your vocals is very clear and the reverb is perfect!
The Figure-8 sounds really good, and the ECM is quite lovely as well.
You pick a very nice song, one of my top fav, and a true classic.
You gave this song a new life with your version.
Love this recording!!!
Thank you for sharing this beauty!
With love and respect,
Rene

Red face

Decided to put a "full band" together for this

Mainly to get practice arranging/playing drums/etc... Same guitar/vocals from the original.
