Default Apple Releases New M2 and M2 Pro Computers

Three different computers released with a variety of configurations. The Mac Mini looks sweet.

What about the Mac Studio? Looks like that has not been updated. The wait continues.

Yep the Mac mini will be a powerhouse for many home and smaller pro studios

I am wondering though if the reason there is no M2 Max Mac Mini is that it might curtail the sales of the Mac Studio M1 Pro and Max series which I guess they want to insure they sell through the current production in the pipeline before they up grade the Studio to M2

The rumor now is that they will be bringing out the new Mac Pro in the old chassis and without the quad M2 ultra ???? Time will tell

The new Mac Mini fan noise is rated at 5dB compared with the Mac Studio at 15dB. Looks like the M2 Pro Mac Mini would be perfect for a small one room home studio.

Comparing similar Mac Mini and Mac Studio builds, you can get a Mac Mini with a 10‑core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine, 32gb ram, and 10gb ethernet port for $1799.

Nearly same specs on a Mac Studio Max (the difference being the 24-core GPU) would cost you $1999.

People doing video might still want the extra GPU cores but for anyone considering a Mac Studio Max for audio only, the Mini might be the better deal.

The fan noise also has to factor in. I don't know if Apple has resolved the issue but some Mac Studio Max customers have gotten noisy fans. I don't think it's a universal problem but the reports are out there and they seem to be almost all about the lower priced Max version.

I was considering one to use for remote video playback using Video Sync 5 & for 3D rendering as with Blender as a render farm (with the main Blender system on my M1 Max MBP).

I bet most original fcp users would caution investing too much in apple. In about 2006 they left all the fcp, up to 5, users in the trash when they changed processors and ppc investors could no longer upgrade. I've still got a ppc powermac, among others. My 1000's invested in fcp, from v1 was lost. Physically beautiful machine stuck in 2005.

FCP X is wildly popular in the indie film circles (I do a LOT of post for that market). I don't hear anyone complaining about what happened 17 years ago. For many of those creators that is half their lifetime ago.

But Apple has always been bleeding edge. They let go of things that don't serve them or their long term goals to move to better things. I've been an Apple user since my Apple ][+ in 1981. They've changed directions on a lot of things in that time.

of course esp young people have short memories. fcp lost half of it's user base when that happened.

Are you thinking the M2 model or M2 Pro ? Also kind of interesting that the Base model dropped $100 in price from the M1 Mini

I was thinking the base M2. It would be more than what I need for those purposes. I won't use it for audio.

Just about every company does things like that. There's a current thread about the Izotope Spire Studio. Izotope is dropping the product and is going to drop support. The people who own one will either have to freeze themselves in place or add a paperweight to their collection. Does that mean Izotope is a bad company? I have old wps files that I can no longer open. Does that mean Microsoft should be avoided?

Tech moves fast, sometimes very fast. It's not always feasible to maintain compatibility with old tech. Perhaps compromises could be made to make it possible but old tech shouldn't be an anchor weighing down advancements and impeding the introduction of the best new tech possible.

I'm absolutely thrilled at the advancements in processing power Apple has made in recent years. This was no small leap forward. I rarely use the term "game-changer" but that's what these new Macs have been for a lot of people.

Yes and perhaps you know this but,,,, the Max Tech guys recommend upgrading the base model to the 512 gb SSD that they say is much faster and will last twice as long
