Nice. Solid or chambered? The Electromatic line is a gem!

If you want the sound to go along with the looks - those circa-2K design Broad'tron pickups don't exactly enjoy a stellar reputation among Gretsch aficionados - here's an inexpensive way to cop some Brooklyn mojo:

https://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Sur...ups_c_259.html

Use it well, often, and LOUD...

Normally Steve you give great advice, especially in the Gretsch dept, but neither of these pickups sound like what the pretend to be, especially the second one. The first at very best sounds like a bad overwound Filtertron copy.

That second pickup is not built like a Dearmond or sound like a DeArmond. The tiny screws in a real DeArmond are there to adjust the movable rod magnets in a real DeArmond. In that GFS pickup they aren't hooked up to anything, and the pickup itself is just like an overwound strat pickup.

A TV Jones Filtertron can be bought that would fit in humbucker rings, and a MR2000SB DeArmond pickup will also work in Humbucker rings. Yes more money, but the real deal construction and tone! And for sure Gretsch Mojo!

Have used both of these pickups and was WAY more than impressed with them!

Thanks for the input guys. I've had good luck with Lace Sensor pickups. I haven't made any decision yet. But I do like the looks of the Lace Sensors.

Lace pickups are fine pickups, but I don't think they make a Gretsch style pickup, which the 2 links is sent your are (Filtertron and Dynasonic). Gretsch guitar sounds are ridiculously cool so that's why I posted

If you don't care about getting a Gretsch sound, I'm sure Laces replacements would sound fine! They have some very unique sounding pickups.

Congrats! What a great trio of guitars. I think the SG in the back needs some attention .

All points very well-taken (and agreed), but I was taking it solely from the standpoint of tweaking a $300 guitar - probably less as it was taken in trade - with some similarly-inexpensive DIY upgrades; FWIW there's a guy here on the AGF who has the Surf 90's - and I'm well aware of the differences between the Dynasonic and the 90's - in his circa-2K Gretsch hollow and loves them (chacun a son gout). Perhaps it's just me, but I can't justify the $250-300 expense of a set of Jones'Trons in a guitar that costs as much as the pickups themselves (YMMV); by the same token, if I wanted to kick a MIK E-Matic - a solidly-built, pro-quality platform from the get-go - over the top, I wouldn't think twice...

I don't know $215 shipped for a set of these would turn that Silver Jet into something pretty dang cool, especially if he got the guitar really cheap on a trade!!!!
