Some awesome sets of wood, Ryan.

But that Macassar--WOW! What a set!

Did you have that Macassar Ebony set when I was at the shop last February? I seem to remember looking at some ebony, but I don't remember that set.

I've got no regrets about the Ziricote and never will, but that Ebony is really, really beautiful.

Glad you guys like that set. And yes, it was here when you visited Vance.
Not sure why this wasn't shown, my guess is that it was stored in a different place in the shop. We've been sitting on this set for years, just waiting for the right opportunity to build with it. Going through the stacks can be as surprising as it is rewarding.

Thanks DustyD! We have had a lot of fun with our Ebony guitars. It provides a solid base to build from.

Since everyone seems to like the darker backs, how about this one?

Katalox

Some super wood choices. That Ebony always catches my eye, and the Katalox is gorgeous as well. I think the majority of us like the sapwood contrasts

Thanks John and Woody. Yeah, visual contrast with sapwood can be a nice touch with a good pattern. Of course, sometimes wood is just all contrast like this set that for some reason reminds me of a Lovecraft story.

Tell me Ryan, how does that make you feel?

That katalox set reminds me of marble or the vanilla swirl in brownies!

Let me lay down on the chaise longue. When I was younger I had this dream about this spider...

Wait, I don’t think this is the place for that. But it is the place for this:

After 40 years of building Steve finally decided to try to build a dreadnought. Here’s the back.

Absolutely gorgeous wood!

That's some pretty katalox!

Quick question, what is its tap tone like? glassy like rosewood or more like ebony?

Thanks! Katalox is very much like Ebony. Its nickname Royal Mexican Ebony is well deserved.
