Question for Soundseat owners
What size lift did you select and why? Would you do a different one if you were to order one today? I’ve talked to Bretta but looking for others input on their experience. I was considering 19.5-24”.

I don’t recall exactly what lift I ordered...but Bretta walked me through every step and thanks to her informed guidance all my choices turned out to be perfect. Buying a SoundSeat was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my guitar journey. If you order one, remember once you put it together everything (seat height, backrest, foot ring, etc.) is adjustable. So take your time and make those small adjustments to dial it in to your needs. Once you do that you’ll never think about seats again. When you sit down to play all you’ll think about is music.

Mine is a standard seat with the mid-back, foot ring, and foot rest. The cylinder is the size that is shorter than the standard one. I am 5'9" with shorter legs and tend to play without a strap when I can. To keep the guitar from sliding away I like to adjust the seat so that when I sit with my foot flat on the ground my thigh is horizontal. To do this, you need the measurement from the ground to the underside of your thigh while you are seated. You can tell Bretta what you are trying to accomplish and she will help you select.
All the best, Bob

We own two. One has the shortest piston (for sitting normally) which will actually go lower than chair height (and slightly higher). The other is our computer chair which sits at countertop level and is the longest one they offered. I don't like 'stools' for playing, so the lower one has been perfect for me for the last 10 years. If I were to order again, I'd go the same route with both. |

Bretta is the widow of my good friend J.R. Rogers, the founder of Soundseat. J.R. founder SoundSeat with the idea of making the best drum and guitar seat in the world and offering it to musicians with integrity. It was mostly a one-man operation. When J.R. passed, Bretta took over the company and continued to offer the Soundseat with the same attention to customers and integrity.
After meeting at MonroeStock acoustic guitar gathering, J.R. and I spent hours on the phone, long distance, keeping up with each other and howling at each others' senses of humor. I miss him, and I miss knowing he was only a phone call away. Bob

Thanks for the responses. My issue is that I currently play in a standard kitchen chair (18”) with both feet on the ground but after a while my shoulder bothers me with a dread. I also play sometimes on a stool (24) I have where one foot is tucked under my and the other is on the ground or on the ring. This seems to be the better of the two positions. I think with a comfortable ring and back this will be my best shot but unfortunately none of the pistons will cover both those heights. I think if I go with the 19.5-24 it may be able to do both but I do have stubby legs. I guess I could always work with her and if I hate the height I could buy just a new piston, if that’s even possible?

I know it’s possible with the take-apart configuration. I would guess it is with the standard chair, but I don’t know for sure...
