I always thought a lagniappe was a long twisty doughnut with powdered sugar. My bad.

Liked those till I heard they are a result of a Great Dane eating too much dough... anyway I display my lagniappes on a shelf ..and... they were delivered inside the box the guitars were in.

I was traveling down the road with a highway map
Just a searching for life's grand lagniappe
Couldn't pay much, still living in an old oak tree
So I was glad, that lagniappe was free....

Don't you worry, there is some stuff that doesn't cost too much
It's on the ground, in the air and a rabbit hutch
No it's not trash or other kinds of worthless crap
Sometimes life provides some great lagniappe.

I would play some tunes
on my most valued Estaban
And ignore the goons
Who keep saying its tone is gone....

Sung to the tune of Love Will Keep Us Alive by The Eagles...

BTW my preference is for thin flat picks....

Those of us originally from Louisiana use this word often.

Wow RP. That was quick! You've earned that pick! (didn't mean to rhyme). Send me a PM and I'll get it to you. I keep my promises.

I found out this about lagniappe--Lagniappe is derived from the South American Spanish phrase la yapa or ñapa (referring to a free extra item, usually a very cheap one). La is the definite article in Spanish as well as in French (la ñapa or la gniappe = the ñapa/gniappe). The term has been traced back to the Quechua word yapay ('to increase; to add').

More info than you ever might want to know, but I'm a word fiend.

Makes sense, lgherb that lagniappe is used in Louisiana where so many french speaking people arrived. Thanks for that info.

Time to rap
About lagniappe
Give it a try, you'll pick it up in a snap

If you want to be a fiend
if you want to make the scene
then Webster's unabridged is what you mean

Been using that info
to keep up the tempo
and find cool words that rhyme with limbo

it cost a little bit
but it's totally worth it
to find the right word and show you give a sh__

well that's a wrap
hope this rap isn't cr__
Consider it a gift or maybe a lagniappe

Tom, look what you started. Now lagniappe is one of those words that's going to be overused, like chill or bro, or glamping. Maybe to make it text worthy we can just write LGP.
Yeah, that's it.

Thanks for the lagniappe rap. We have all received a LGP.

I HATE that. Especially on the ugly tube..... The word "pivot" is finally starting to wear off, like a bad acid trip.
