Default a year old article on vintage guitars by George Gruhn

George makes it sound like the '37 D-28 is the holy grail of vintage Martins (along with the prewar D-45, of course).

Is he likely referring to mid '30s to mid '40s D-28s or is there something about the '37 that make it more special than other Herringbone D-28s?

The x-brace on the Martin 14 fret guitars was shifted in 1938. The ones prior are more desireable due to tone, and are called "Forward Bracing", rather than "Rear Shifted Breacing"
