Default RIP Eddie Van Halen....

Just heard the news.

I'll never forget the day I saw him play in the summer of '78. I was pressed up against the barrier in front of the stage with my jaw on the floor most of the time.

One of the best for sure.

Here's a pic from that day 42 years ago. Not mine, but I was right next to whoever took it! The lineup was supposed to be Cheap Trick, Van Halen and Bob Seger. Bun E. Carlos was sick, so a couple of Michigan bands played instead.

Would have been a more amazing day if they were able to play, but still one I'll never forget!

My first 8 track in my '65 Ford. Nothing like Eruption through a Craig 8 track, 6x9 Jensons and a 40 watt KMART Sound Exploder.

RIP Eddie.

Wow. I thought he’d beaten the cancer. I don’t generally get affected by celeb deaths, but this one is a major bummer, he was huge for me growing up. Such a sense of fun in his playing, man I loved that band in the original lineup.

Thanks for all the good times and great tunes, Eddie.

Default I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...Eddie Van Halen has died!

Eddie Van Halen has died today at the age of 65. Not exactly famous for playing acoustic guitar, but one of the greatest rock guitarists in history!

Shocking news. He completely changed the way electric guitar was played. Sure, other people may have this lick or that or this technique or that before he did. But, he put it all together into a sound that revolutionized rock and roll. I couldn't even begin to roughly approximate what he could do. His command was complete. After he came on the scene, I switched back to acoustic.

10 year battle with throat cancer comes to a sad end. How many times did we see him in concert playing with a cigarette stuck between the strings on the headstock? 65 is too young.

Terrible news. When I was 15, the first Van Halen album changed my musical tastes. I was transfixed by his playing and listened to the album over and over.

The generation before me had Clapton, Hendrix, etc but for my generation Eddie was the man.

RIP.

I saw the Grateful Dead and Van Halen at Selland Arena
In Fresno. As much as I loved the Dead , Van Halen was way more fun and entertaining. I took two teen age girls with me. It was a blast!

Never attended a VH concert (or paid for a ticket anyhow). Instead, I flew upside down above their live show in a twisting, tumbling carnival ride one night at the Del Mar Fair. The sound was incredible - Hear About It Later. Very enjoyable.
