Default Taming low E boom

Hi,

Seeking suggestions on how to tame/reduce low E boom on older Taylor 810 dread. Lower gauge low E string helps a tad. Would different string alloy help? If so, please specify. What other ideas besides (or perhaps in addition to) strings. THANKS!

Try Aluminum Bronze. They helped on my martin mmv.

Would help a lot with a few more details.
What gauges have you been trying/playing (with brands)?
Did you change out the entire gauge(s) or just the E string?
What gauge/E string gauge are you now using?
Is the bass not only louder than, but also dominating the other strings?
Presuming your 810 is spruce over rosewood, have you made (or if used, do you know of) any alterations to the guitar?

For what it's worth, my bought-new Taylor 818 (nearly 17" lower bout, spruce over rosewood) was shipped with Elixir Mediums. First couple of string changes I put mediums on it. Ended up feeling the bass was a bit much, so put on Elixir PB HD Lights. They keep the slightly heavier trebles but reduce the bass strings proportionately. Gauge ranges from .013 to .053. I really like the tone now, and the strings seem like their acting as a team. But that's just my ears and taste. I also fingerpick everything if that matters.

Don

Is the boom coming while playing unplugged? Or plugged in? If while plugged in, strings are not going to help.

Different string? Different pin material? I suspect you're going to have to experiment a bit as every guitar is different when it comes to these things.
