When things are just right
A few weeks back, I started a thread about being new to Blue Chip picks. The information you all gave was truly appreciated. I have since taken possession of a TD-40 and a small wooden Blue Chip pick box.
The pick is not flashy, it is thinner than I expected it to be. It's not textured. It doesn't look special. It doesn't feel special. But, it doesn't slip out of my hand. It feels like "the" pick should feel. It doesn't drag across the strings. It doesn't click when it goes over the strings. It's really difficult to explain. In the same way my $699 Neumann KMS105 doesn't make my vocal sound any better, this $35 plectrum does not make my playing sound any better. But, it does feel right. It feels transparent. As if it is the perfect accessory to my right hand. I don't know how else to explain it.

I too feel like a good pick makes a difference. And there are a lot of really good picks out there from makers like Blue Chip, Charmed Life, Red Bear, V-Picks and the list goes on. Just pick the one that works for you.

Glad you like the Blue Chip so much. I have been trying to avoid spending that much on a pick, especially with the hit on our Canadian dollar. But all the attributes you list are the important things to me in a pick. Thanks......I think

You're welcome, I guess I'm an enabler when it comes to gear.

Sounds perfect to me. Exactly what I want from a pick - to never think about it again and just worry about making the magic.

I kind of like a little click in my attack.

That's funny. Every little thing you do will accumulate, to create you're tone. Years ago when I started accumulating recording gear. Was recording my drummer's vocal.
He said, "I thought that $1000. mic should make him sound like Kenny Loggins. But he still sounded like Joe. This was before autotune. I told him crap going in, crap coming out. You can rub on it all you want, but you can't polish a turd. So if you're pick helps mold you're tone, great. I loose picks too much to even give them a try. |

No need to explain it any other way. You nailed it.
