Default Voyage Air Repair

Does anyone have any experience with getting Voyage Air guitars repaired?
I bought a Voyage Air VAOM04 from a boardie here several weeks ago and it has been working flawlessly for weeks now
However this morning when i was opening up the guitar for practice and church, one of the little plastic grooves inside the hinge assembly gave up the ghost and broke

Obviously this is a problem as the hinge is dead.

I sent Voyage Air support an email asking how we go about getting repairds done on this mechanism and hopefully i will hear back from them this week

Bad timing though as i am supposed to take this thing out of the country in two weeks

I brought my Voyage Air to Elderly in Lansing MI. The person who worked on my guitar was Steve Olson. He did a great job. I don't know where you live, but it might be worth a call.

The hinge has a lifetime warranty, but I don't know if that's only for the original purchaser. You can give their office in Livermore a call tomorrow. Hopefully Harvey will see this and give some advice.

You probably should follow the call with an email - I believe the shop/office is moving out to the Valley.

Chad,

JoeMac is correct... the warehouse is moving from Livermore to Modesto but the email and phone should be still active.

The fix is pretty simple and only takes a few minutes. I'm not sure if the hinge warrantee is transferrable or not but regardless a new hinge should be fairly inexpensive. If you are fairly handy you can probably switch out the old hinge with just a screwdriver. It is important to be aware of any shims that might be under of on top of the hinge and put them back in the same place once you install the new hinge.

Harv

p.s. Where are you located?

I am located in North Alabama.
I know everyone says that this is very easy to do, but i am pretty leary of trying to fix this myself as i dont want to make a problem worse.

No answer yet from voicemail or email to Voyage Air yet....im gonna give them a couple of days and hit them up again.

Chad, you basically have your answer from Harvey. And as Joe said, a phone call would be best given your time constraints.

On my VA, the brass post didn't align with the brass hole it goes into. It rubbed on one side. As a result, I pushed too hard while opening up my VA and the part of fretboard that is glued to the top, lifted and cracked the top. The photo in link below shows the damage. Voyage Air fixed it on warranty. They did it with no questions asked in a timely manner. You can barely tell it ever had a problem. I was very satisfied.

The hinge replacement really should be as easy as Harvey describes. My Voyage Air had a minor alignment problem. VA promptly sent a couple shims. I partially removed the hinge, inserted a shim, and was good to go. As I recall, the entire procedure took about ten minutes, most of which was spend deciding on the appropriate shim. The guitar now plays perfectly.

Hi Chad…
Harvey Leach invented the Voyage-Air! I would listen to him. (he is harvl here on the forum)

If you don't trust yourself, just find a tech you trust and you'll have your guitar going with you on your trip I bet.

Well I am pretty dissapointed to say the least.
Not with the Voyage Air guys at all, but just the situation.
Estimate to fix is $250 plus shipping (2 hours of labor, plus $99 for the hinge)
Just not sure i can justify putting that much money into a guitar that i only paid $350 for

Really sucks...

Chad,

For that kind of money, considering what you paid for the guitar, I would do the work myself. At this point, what have you got to lose? You'd only be talking about the cost of the hinge and your time, which is free.

Best of luck on this.

I'm with Glenn, fix it yourself, it's not rocket science. Perhaps Harvey has a hinge he can sell you for a little less.
