Post Squash that signal!

To help solve the problem of the "boomyness" that occurs when a high-quality recording is played back on low-medium quality speakers, I've heard that employing a high-pass filter can solve the problem and help make a recording more "radio friendly". What settings do you recommend for a high pass filter? At what frequency should I begin to attenuate the low frequencies?

Is there some device that will "squash" the signal so that the largest amount of the frequencies are within a certain range to be compatible with most equipment - i.e. car stereos, etc.?

Anyone used the TC Electronics Finalizer Express? Comments?
