Default Rainsong Dread or Jumbo...

.

Is there anything in the works for a Rainsong Dreadnought or Jumbo with a cutaway?

I know, I know... but I am serious. Is there any possibility?

Ha! I'm not holding my breath but I would love to see an OM without a cutaway.

More sound chamber would be nice on the smaller bodies. :

Having recently acquired a "Smokey" (the original "small jumbo" body with the 12-fret neck and short scale), I honestly can't understand why anyone would want anything larger. Played purely acoustically, this one will clear the room and create a risk of foundation damage. Plugged in, size just doesn't matter.

But I know, it's a matter of individual taste.

Do you flat pick? I am finding I am more at home with a larger soundboard doing flat picking with palm mute etc. Seems to sound better?

I agree with what Pete said. My Rainsong APLE (think customized Shorty) has plenty of volume acoustically.

The discussion about the extent to which a cutaway affects a guitar's tone/volume is certainly not new. I've read that Bob Taylor and some other luthiers don't believe it has a significant effect on a guitar's tone/volume, because the upper bout of a guitar does not vibrate as much or contribute to volume. Others may disagree however.

The issue of whether one likes the "look" of a cutaway is, of course, totally personal preference.

Bill

A dreadnought w/cutaway was one of my suggestions to Ashvin a few years ago. Although he likes the idea, with Rainsong it's not a simple matter of mixing up some foam for a new mold, so new models need to be given serious thought.

I would like the WS 1000 without a cutaway. The cutaway I really like on a Rainsong was the Parlor.

I'm not sure a non cutaway WS would sell very well, but it would be nice to try one.

.

Ted... I agree. A dread with a cutaway would be a STELLAR addition to the Rainsong product line. (Ashvin... if you are listening... count me in!)

I've always thought that my Rainsong Jumbo could really use a bevel. The edges always feel a lot sharper on it than other wood guitars I have. I end up with a crease on my arm from it.

RainSong's approach to building is somewhat different from other manufacturers as well correct? If I understand correctly, RainSong uses very expensive tooling and molds , pre preg carbon fiber (for more even resin transfer and cohesive bonding between "layers" during the curing process). Maybe it just gets too expensive to get crazy on catalog options and custom jobs? If anyone would know Ted, it would be you!

I've found the RainSong WS1000N1 Classic and CO-WS1000N2 Concert are excellent and versatile all-around guitars. I've owned RainSong Dreadnoughts, both the DR1000 Classic and CO-DR1000N2 Concert, and also a RainSong JM3000 12-String Classic. They're all nice guitars but I love the RainSong WS1000N1 Classic tone and playability the best.
