Burner #013 - with pictures!

The guitar is a ways out from being started...I won't be back in the states until 2011, so I've got time. But the pieces are coming together so I'm excited to be able to add my first custom build thread!

Paul and Kyle are building me their larger MS model (same size as my x14 which I love). Here is what I have so far.

Body: Burner MS model w/ florentine cutaway
B&S: African Blackwood
Top: AAAA Carpathian Spruce
Binding (body & headstock): curly Koa
Binding (soundhole & fretboard): ABW or ebony
Rosette: koa tiled
Nut Width: 1 3/4"
Scale: 25.4"
Pickup: LR Baggs LB6x
Tuners: Gotoh 510 w/ebony buttons

Very excited about this and the Burners did a great job helping me find woods that had the tonal qualities I was looking for. To their credit I also limited them a little bit by giving them geographic limitations...the wood used to make this guitar comes from the three continents I've lived in: US (even if it's not CONUS), Africa and now Eastern Europe.

Very nice looking wood!! Paul and Kyle build a fantastic looking guitar. In my opinion, they make one of the finest florentine cutaways I've ever seen. They are neck and neck with Cornerstone guitars for beauty of Florentine cutaway. You're going to love this guitar!! Keep us posted.(pun intended)

I agree whole-heartedly. Call me shallow, but deal-breakers for me include an unattractive cutaway (never like Breedlove's) or strange headstock (because yeah...otherwise I would have jumped on that Somogyi). And here's the ubiquitous, to each his own...this is IMHO.

But yes, the whole design: headstock, fretboard termination, cutaway...it's all working for me.

And so the end draws near...

It's been 2 years and 4 days since I first contacted the Burners about a build. I stuck myself at the end of a tentative wait list since I wanted to pick it up in the States when I come in Summer 2012, not have it shipped overseas.

And now my number is up and the real progress has begun!

Nice Florentine cutaway. As a nice touch the Burners laminated ABW onto the mahogany tip so in case my head ever shrinks enough to stick it in the sound hole I'll see a nice dark interior. Love the craftsman who gives love to the unseen details.


The Burners were also kind enough to acquiesce to my request that the kerfing extend several inches above the soundboard...


Kyle (on right) is working on mine. I also notice he's channeling his inner Spartan to come up with the clean and elegant look we're going for.

Their goal is to have this done by February so minus the finish my guitar and my fourth child (daughter) could have the same birthday Guess that means this one goes to her later in life as long as she promises not to cover it with rhinestones.

I worked on the rosette more tonight - and have it almost ready to go - then more photos for this thread soon!

Kyle worked on shaving the back braces tonight.

A good time was had in the heated garage/shop. Our last day of nice weather for a while I hear.
