I hear Yanny clear as day. When I asked my wife what she heard she said Laurel clear as day. Explains a lot. LOL

Same dynamic in our house! Definitely explains a few things.

I personally hear neither yanny nor laurel.....I hear "Gary" or "Airy" in a European accent...

Yup, I'm officially a weirdo, but I like both mahogany and rosewood for different things. Mahogany for strumming and rosewood for fingerstyle.

I hear Yanny and prefer rosewood but I have noticed recently since playing more mahogany guitars that my voice is supported better by a more fundamental tone with less overtone content.

Best,
Jayne

But seriously (haha) I cannot isolate one name from the other - I do indeed hear them layered, like "yalaurnnyel."

Given your question, this would make sense because I own one Mahogany guitar (H&D) and one Rosewood guitar (Martin) and I truly cannot decide which wood I prefer. I usually prefer the one I'm playing at the time, until I switch.

Fun.

I was wondering if I heard Yanny just because it was given as a choice. If I had just heard the spoken vocal without any choice I probably would have said something closer to "Gary". It would be interesting to do a test where people just have to say what they think the guy is saying without any choices given.

Best,
Jayne

Laurel / Rosewood to my septuagenarian ears.

Now I wish I could un-hear and forget all this Laurel and Hardy cowpie stuff. Who's on first anyway?

I 'hear' it's a frequency thing. Why don't you play this for dogs named Laurel and see if they come?
Or at least wag their tails?
Anybody have a dog named 'Yanny'?

Don

What's it mean if one day I hear "Laurel" and the next day "Yanni"?

When I played it this morning, I heard Laurel. My teenager said it sounded more like Larry.
