Default Vox AC15C1 hum

(Not necessarily acoustic, but it is amplification related)...you can move it to the appropriate place if needed.

I've got a Vox AC15C1 with some weird humming going on. Here's a video:

As you can see, with nothing plugged in, and the amp engaged, it has a hum that ramps up and stays solid. The 2nd time in the video is more of what it sounds like in person. Has anyone seen this before? Is it a cap that's gone bad? I'm at a loss. Thanks for the help!

Being as the your Vox is a tube driven amp, I would begin there. Could be a tube going south on you. It sounds like possibly a 60 cycle hum to me.

Vox makes killer amps no doubt, I used to play a VT50 when I was playing electric. Good luck finding a solution and please post here if you do. In the meantime this video might be helpful

I had this same issue in a Marshall JCM900. VERY low hum. I implemented a true star ground, all the caps were changed (it was time), and it still had this nagging hum.

The issue? Turned out to be Sovtek 12ax7's!!! Both in the preamp section were susceptible to the induction. I replaced both with JJ's and instant quiet!

I'll not use Sovteks in a pre ...ever!

Go figure...and good luck!

Changed out the power tubes, no change. Probably going for the Preamp tubes next.

Bummer. But if that does solve the problem, you have basically overhauled the amp with presumably better components. Maybe it will sound even better then?
