Dave Matthews 914 Pickup
I am not real familiar with Dave Matthews or his gear.
Does anyone know what pickup system he uses in his 914. I do not think he has the Fishman "barn door" but I could be wrong. Certainly wouldn't be the first time. Thanks

Here is a good place to start:
http://gear.dmbtabs.com/ this is the model they say that he uses: http://gear.dmbtabs.com/view.php?id=28 Check out the boards and run a search. It's an excellent site. I wish that all of my favorite artists had such a great resource of info on the web!

Most likley because he has some kind of deal with fishman, From what i've heard those 914s sound great with the band, but are over abrasive when its just him. Too jangly not too much of a warm tone, from what i have heard.

That is probably why he plays his Martin DM3MD when he is solo or with Tim. D

Yeah i agree the Dm3md sounds far better than the Taylors in the more intimate setting like solo perfomerances and D&T shows.

Joe Barbieri, the tech at Fishman.com, installed all my pickups as according to dave matthews standards. Joe worked hand in hand with Monk, dave's guitar tech/roadie, and Joe did all the installations for Dave Matthews. Yes, dave endorses Fishman, but those Matrix systems do sound great.

Take the Chet Atkins SST for example, it uses the now discontinued cleartone saddle, the action set at "6 and 5", and the Matrix pickup isn't just thrown in the guitar. Its actually blended with the pre-existing pre amp so that the pre amp performs better than the previous LR Baggs LB6. Its a really cool operation, and very affordable. If you email Joe at [email protected] he can give you the whole scoop. |
