Tom and I have been discussing inlay. His preference is to let the wood speak without inlay. I am to OCD for that entirely. We agreed on a single inlay at the 12th fret which keep the visual mostly in tact, give me a “center” and should nicely complement the other woods.

He has previously done a double diamond at 12. I asked for a somewhat larger single diamond. The picture with the red diamond inside shows the previous and new sizes in scale. The second is just the new inlay.

It will be silver, outlining Ebony, against a BRW board. The binding will be ebony and the rosette also has a small dose.

Cool--I'm a big fan of unadorned fretboards with a single 12th-fret inlay.

This one looks like it will be very tasteful...

Ah yes, that diamond looks familiar! Tom's work of course! Back in '14 we worked on this same 12th fret design for my Legacy, shared graphics back and forth and Tom came up with this for my 12fret. I think it's probably the "Doerr Diamond"!LOL! I really liked how it came out.
Anyway, it might give you additional input/ideas which Tom has done in the past. By the way, the small wood centers of the diamonds are Braz wood chips lifted from the bridge of my very first Martin purchased about 53 years ago!
Here's the pic:

That’s really nice, Dave. The example I saw was two, side-by-side. It was nice as well, but I prefer the accent the third provides.

We shall see!

Excellent choice of words! That was the conclusion I came to. After several years of owning a number of very nice guitars, responsiveness was what I wanted. It’s central to what Tom does.

I don’t believe in guitars that are “finger style” vs “flat pickers/strummers.” It all has to do with how responsive a guitar is to touch and dynamics. If I play softly, I want it to convey that, if I hit it hard with a pick, I want it to hold together. So a guitar that swings wide in its response is key.

Tom and I have talked a lot about this. I’m confident that he knows what I’m driving at and will deliver in spades.

Let’s see what Tom can do to make Red Spruce play nice with children, yet pack a powerful bite when you need it. Just like my Pitty.
