Top Crack
Hi - Not sure if it's just lacquer or indeed the wood. I have looked at the underside with mirror and can't see anything of concern - Would a top crack normally go all the way through and be visible form the underside?
Thanks in advance. |

Does the crack run parallel to the grain or does it meander across or at an angle to the grain?

It's running parallel.
Thanks for reply. |

It would not necessarily be visible from the inside. You probably need to get it to someone who can tell whether it's a lacquer crack or not.

The best way to check is to get some naphtha (Ronsinol lighter fluid) and wet the crack slightly, let it sit for a few seconds and then check the suspected crack (on inside of guitar) with a mirror and flashlight. If it's a crack, the area on the inside of the guitar adjacent to the suspected crack will show a wet place where the naphtha seeped through. No wet place---no crack. The lighter fluid evaporates quickly, will do no harm and leaves no trace upon evaporation. You may have to apply some polish/wax to the finished area where you put the naphtha if wax was removed during the test.

Thanks 1oufan - Did what you suggested - No seepage - so far so good!
