Source Audio Ventris knocked the Big Sky off my board. I preferred the sound and it's much easier to use.

I've always been a huge verbhead. Never liked spring reverb. I've always felt it sounded fake and brittle, with little control over many parameters.
Consequently, I stopped using it back in 1987, or so, when I bought my first digital reverb. Back then, digital reverb was not very far developed. It sure has come a long way, though. Now, there's almost no limit to what kind of space you can create. In the past couple of years, after using mostly rack equipment, I decided to go back to using dedicated pedals. I've been putting together a board that would be equally suitable for my electric and acoustic systems (with only the amps being the different end of the chain), in an event to do away with using two separate rack systems (one for each). I've been through numerous reverbs. Among them, were the tc electronic Hall of Fame 2, DigiTech Polara, EQD Afterneath v2, MXR M300, Walrus Audio Fathom; and more recently, the Eventide Space and the Source Audio Ventris. The Ventris, alone, knocked the Afterneath, the Polara, and the HoF2 off the board. It, and the the Space are both incredible pedals that have far surpassed my expectations of what to look for in a high quality digital reverb system - and I haven't even begun to delve into their many capabilities. Once I get my hands on a proper MIDI switcher and some expression pedals, the sky will be the limit. The HoF2 was the first to be sold off. I haven't yet decided whether or not to part with the v2 and the Polara. They may end up on a smaller, more minimalist board. The M300 has the most beautiful pad setting. The Fathom also has some glorious tones and sweet modulation, and is quite flexible. Those two are keepers. The board, so far (with some cable replacements necessary, and still need of the power supplies, properly mounted underneath the board. Reverbs are a very deep rabbit hole for me (as are delays). Experimenting with them remains an on-going adventure - probably not to end any time soon. |

I sold the Big Sky (to many control parameters)and kept the Blue Sky, then compared the HOF2, Blue Sky, to the Polara. The polara is better for acoustic guitar, then sold the HOF2. For acoustic the Blue Sky and Polara are good. The Blue Sky sounds best.

How is the Shimmer mode on the Blue Sky for acoustic? I've been using a Nuenaber Seraphim Shimmer. I can leave it in the "Wet" reverb mode, or press/hold for shimmer which is awesome in the way the shimmer trails elegantly after the initial attack.

It's a personal preference, but I liked both the shimmer on the HoF2 and the Blue sky. They are similar enough. But since the Blue sky has a favorite switch, I have no need for the Hof2. I'm not a ambient player, I just need some reverb on all the time and soft shimmer in song passages.
