Luckily I have the three already so I could grab the three cases and run if necessary. A Martin D-41A Custom (Turbo), an Goodall GC (have to be used) and a Martin 000-18E Retro. If I were to opt out of the 000-18 I would bring the Huss & Dalton CM Non-Cutaway. The H&D CM body is amazing to play and a feast to look at and run your hands over. Anything that would rival these guitars would be well over the $5,000 limit.

I already have them. I consider my 2 Martins “lifers” but my Taylor and my Tele could be sold/traded/replaced without losing much sleep.

I’m kind of there. I have 5 playable guitars accumulated over 30 years that cost less than $1K each but have a house to pay off, one kid to put in college and another who we need to set up with a special needs trust to supplement SSI. I’d really like a $3K+ guitar (or two) while I’m still able to play but can get by with what I have..

Under $5,000 - isn't that a beginner's guitar?

I’ll play.
1. Martin D-1 Authentic 1931 (ie 12-fret D-18). Best new guitar I’ve ever played or heard. 2. A good D-28 Standard. Either the reimagined new ones with a custom chunky neck or a good HD-28V. 3. 12-fret 00. I really like the all mahogany 00-17 Authentic 1931, But if there’s an under $5k 12-fret 00-21 floating around out there, it’d be a tough choice. 4. If I had a 4th, it’d be something of the J-45 variety. Probably a PreWar Co sunburst version. |

Already have my D-18. Can I have a Gibson L-4CES please? Doesn't get much more desirable than this...

The $5k limit per guitar is tough, as is the count of 3, but here are my choices from my current stock that qualify:
Gibson L-5 WesMo Martin D-18 Warmoth Strat I would desperately like to include a nylon stringed instrument here, but I'll follow the rules.

Going under 5k is easy, actually, I got 2 of them now.
Heritage 575 (steel string hollowbody electric) Godin Duet Ambiance Grand Concert (nylon string) Both of those were just under or over 2k. Now it gets tricky. I need a steel string acoustic, preferably a Selmer-Maccaferri style. I'm still figuring out exactly what I want (playing a very inexpensive Cigano now) but I could do with a used Dupont or other European maker and be under 5k, for the most part. The toughest part is...I need one more guitar. A telecaster. Can I take what I saved on the others and keep my old tele? |
