Yep. This is what happened. Not Reverb's cause or fault. Your state wants "its" money.

So I just sold a guitar on Reverb. The buyer was charged $83 sales tax.
Reverb sent the sales tax funds to me via paypal.
Now I will be charged the $83 "at the end of the month".

Seems a convoluted system, and brings some questions to mind like:
What about those who disappear before the end of the month?

Also, what effect does this have on those who carry a credit card balance?

The whole idea of private individuals comingling another state's tax revenue is rediculous imo.
