Thanks Col. She does indeed I, er, stumbled (i.e. after much searching) over this set and fell in love with it, so ended up buying it and sending it to Tom. Really looking forward to putting the thread together when it kicks off (which reminds me, I need to update Beverly's thread soon - but am tied up with recording, so I have the best of excuses!). There might be a little surprise or two in the feature set for this second Sands as well (as if Beverly wasn't already the "kitchen sink" guitar), if I can twist Tom's arm!

Judging from this thread, looks like they'll be a whole host of wonderful build threads coming up over the next few years. Can't wait!

Another Sands customer here, expecting my second Sands maybe next year or 2021. Spec TBC, but probably broadly similar to my first (the big bottom baritone "Beverly"), but possibly a deep bodied M (OM size), shorter scale fan fret (c. 25.25-26.5), cedar or redwood over a stunning set of quilted hog. Might even dabble with a closeable / adjustable sound port. Rest will probably be as my Sands baritone: 49-50mm nut; 61.5mm string spacing at the bridge; rib and arm bevels; fingerboard extension to 23 frets; Manzer wedge; copper (but probably patinated this time) rosette, end graft and headstock inlays; cosmo black Gotoh 510 21:1 HAP.

Here's that hog set:

Very excited about this one, given how well the Baritone tuned out
I am sure Tom will build you another fantastic guitar!
Is it possible that I have used a sister set on the baritone for Don Latarski?!

Yes - I remember following the thread on that stunning baritone you built for Don and thinking exactly the same thing. Looks to me like it's only a slice or two away from that one too! Small world, eh? I suspect we got it from the same dealer too. I hope it ends up looking even half as good as that under finish

The baritone Tom built for me was originally going to be fiddleback hog; when that didn't pan out, I sourced this set for my second guitar with Tom. I'm thinking it'll pair nicely with some cedar, or possible redwood (I think Tom has some Lucky Strike...), to mellow it out and make for a warm, rich and woody sounding guitar.

For Myself:

2019: Mark Hatcher will begin work next week on my Alpine Moon Spruce - The Fiddleback Tree Small Jumbo.

2020: Tyler Robbins - a Euro-Spruce - Madagascar RW R.1ca

2021: Jonathan Razo - a German Spruce - Bois de Rose Grand Auditorium
Doug,

You have some cool builds coming up. Mark Hatcher seems to have an amazing stash of interesting woods, I've listened to several recordings of his guitars and like what I hear.

You are in tune with up and coming new talent. Always interesting to see who you are working with. Where did you find the Bois de Rose?

Makes me feel almost normal to just be getting one a year.

Play on, AGF

One per year is almost conservative

Thanks Mike I am very much looking forward to each of my 3 upcoming builds.
Jonathan Razo procured a Bois de Rose board from a local wood dealer and sawed it into 4 or 5 guitar sets. I was able to play the first guitar he built with this wood (pictured in my previous post) and I put my deposit down for my own Bois de Rose build soon thereafter. There is a link to the bois de rose in the raw below:

I’m not really expecting any but am trying to ferrit away funds for one in a few years while my favorite luthier is still in business; I’ve already put it off too long and I’m afraid he’ll retire before I get around to commissioning with him. In the meantime, I’m trying to increase my efforts and investment in building them myself. I’m nearing completion of my second build and in the early stages of my third build before the mental cobwebs set in.

Around the first of June I am expecting a Fairbanks F35. Pretty much a base F35 build.

It’s been an insane few years and I’m running out of ideas for guitars, though I love supporting builders. Here’s the stuff coming my way:

1) Blazer and Henkes Euro/maple Euphonon shipping to me next week. This wasn’t built for me; it was just a spec guitar Willi happened to have.

2) My Circa OM-18/21 will be done in the next few weeks and should ship soon.

3) Tony Klassen started on an Adi/koa Maurer clone for me. Build thread will start soon. He’s making it a little deeper than a real deal Larson to augment the bass.

4) A Circa 000-12 with style 30 appointments will start maybe next year? Adi and Braz. Bird’s beak neck on that one.

5) In the distant future I have a Buendia OM with Adi and mahogany.
