Default X7 has arrived

My X20 now has a little brother...Emerald X7.jpg

I have wanted a travel guitar for some time, and this looks like it will fill the bill. It is a 2013 acquired from a fellow AGFer.

I changed the strings to my standard: Elixir Nanoweb 80/20 lights (12-53). Sounds good.

Nice photo of two wonderful guitars.

Except for the color, your X7 and X20 are the same as mine.
Hope you enjoy your Emeralds as much as I enjoy mine.

Congrats - they're great little guitars. I had one for a while, also along with an X20, and liked it soooo much I bought a new model woody X7 and liked IT so much I sold both of the others. It's a lifer. You'll love that little guy...

Congrats, Zee! We too have an X20 and an X7. They cover different missions, in the way that a sports car and a pickup truck do different things.

I have played our X7 a lot this summer. At first the smaller body helped me get back to playing again as I got [slowly] better after shoulder surgery. Then we made a five day trip and X7 went along, seeing play time by the hotel pool on several evenings.

But not like a ghost and a spirit... or a janitor and a custodian ... or an undertaker and a mortician type thing I guess.

Sounds like everyone likes their X7’s. Good to hear. Okay...from you X7 people...what are your favorites strings?

On the new X7, I go back and forth between Martin Retros (Monels) and DR Sunbeams. I tried a LOT of strings and I can't say I like one of these more than the other, but I love 'em both and spend time with each of them on the guitar. I'd say the Sunbeams are a little sweeter for fingerpicking and the Models are a little bolder and louder for strumming, but whichever one I have on a given moment is my favorite string, until I change them...

When I had the older style X7 like yours I liked Monels on it but hadn't tried Sunbeams. I really didn't do near as much checking out different strings on that one because I just didn't play it as long before moving on to the new one.

I like extra light Bronze flatwounds.

To me they sound great, they're easy to bend and no string squeak.
Presently using Galli ALF Jazz Flat 80/20 Bronze 10-47 on the X7 and
Dogal Nightclub V25 Bronze Flatwound Acoustic Guitar Strings 11-42 on the X20.
I like the Dogal a little better than the Galli, but the Galli are more reasonably priced.

Next string change I plan to try the Dogal V25 on the X7.

Congratulations Angie, I'm glad you like it. I use D'Addario EJ-16's on all my guitars to keep it simple.

I've tried a lot of strings on my X7, the Monels are OK, but they don't last that long for me, I always seem to end up back with the Elixir nano PB HD lights, to me they are like the Honda Accord of strings, they do everything well and nothing the best. A nice combo you have there !!

Congrats! I think the X7 and X20 compliment each other and cover a great range. Hope you enjoy the new addition. I really like the size and feel of that generation X7.

For strings, I have tried others, but always come back to the Elixir PB Nanowebs. They sound great and last a good long time.

One last thing...I originally had changed strings to Elixir 80-20 Nanoweb Lights (12-53), and was not really happy. Just replaced those with Elixir Nanoweb Light/Medium (12-56), and that's what this little X7 needed...good lower end now. Guess I have become a string nerd.

I've heard that if you leave the two of them together enough you'll end up with an X10.

How can you tell if a guitar player is from the sticks?
