The Dogs looked more like themselves last night. I like our chances Monday with Scherzer on the hill!

As many of us in SoCal know...we hope the Dodgers didn't completely unload the truck last night and have left some timely hits and runs in reserve. Nice to see Cody back to where he was a year ago. As Vin would say the Dodgers needed a split on the road and now return to the friendly confines of Dodger Stadium.

After good pitching early in the game, Dodger bats came alive.
Mookie Betts made the defensive play of the game. Now, on to Dodger stadium. Go Dodgers! |

Geeze. My team caused cardiac attacks by going 14 yesterday. I feel as through both teams are being over managed? How many pitchers were used?
I am delighted by the W, of course.

Over managed? I find pitchers are replaced far too often. How often do we see a pitcher come in and pitch a great inning only to be replaced after having thrown only 15 pitches? Sometimes I think analytics results with more losses than wins. And starting pitchers only seem to be good for 5-6 innings now. Crazy. Rodriguez tonight. He needs to be solid because we used up our bullpen, as did the Rays. Don't like to say this but he'll either give up 4 runs in the first 2 innings or will pitch a gem. |

But I think that the constant churning of the bullpen does lead to some hair-pulling innings. I think that is what caught up with the Rays. Every game can’t be what we used to call a “bullpen game.” Analytics work if you play the game on paper. (I’m a Bill James guy from way back, but I think we have changed the game in less-than-pleasing ways in recent years.)

Thank all that is good that the Red Sox won tonight and will move on! It was fun to watch and you gotta like this team. Both teams used a lot of pitchers the last two games. Luckily the Red Sox will have a few days off before facing Houston or Chicago. I hope the arms and pitching rotation get back in order and are strong as that will be key. If the Sox had to go back to Tampa they would be depleted in the pitching staff. Also, there are a couple of nagging injuries that will enjoy some time off. We move forward!

I got a chance to see the Red Sox vs Rays this evening on my computer. One of my daughters and her family are in western Mass. and are Red Sox fans so I had to root for them; I felt bad for the Rays but I thought the Sox played really well. I will look forward to them moving on in the ALCS.

Red Sox/Rays. At first, I thought the Rays would win this series.
Red Sox move on. A hot team right now. Dodger/Giants. Pitching, defense, and a solo HR says it all. Unusual high winds last night. A bad Candlestick vibe. Game 4 tonight. Giants looking to wrap up. Dodgers looking to set up a game 5. Go Dodgers! |

Dodgers hold Giants to just 3 hits and 1 run... still lost. It's never easy.

Agreed! Tough loss last night..just couldn't get a hit to fall.
Hopefully tonight will be different, but it's starting to look like it might be the Giro's year...or at least their series. scott |

Apparently if you play for Milwaukee and catch a ball after it bounces it's called an out. And if you are a Brewers relief pitcher you are allowed to stand like a statue on the mound for 18 minutes between pitches. Oh brother...
