Senior center sounds like a fairly non-threatening venue. For someone not used to performing solo. Audience might not be too critical. Possibly the biggest conundrum may be song recognition or requests for historical clasics.

The senior center I play, the audience loves any kind of live music. Very friendly people and we have a regular crowd. So we all know each other well. It doesn't pay anything but it's always a good time, as we enjoy the music of many different performers.

We love playing Assisted Living Facilities. We started playing them again this year but only got a few in. We have another show booked for the day after Thanksgiving but I'd be shocked if it didn't get canceled with the Delta V spike. But playing for these wonderful people is our favorite gig. They love it and are so attentive. Unless we play a couple mellow songs in a row then we lose a few to dozing!

I played music for a few lunches at a senior center some years ago. As I was setting up for the first one, a spry old lady with a cane marched up to me, got right in my face and said "You had better not be loud." Shook her cane at me and continued "because I'm an old lady and I can bop you right in the nose!". She marched off indignantly, and then pulled up a chair right in front. I think she enjoyed both the music and being the resident curmudgeon.

That's a good question how do you run sound at a senior center? I would guess a person runs the volumn really low.

In the past I've used a Bose Compact speaker with the guitar and mic straight in to play in recreation rooms with about fifty people or so. A very nice simple set up. However the place I'm playing in October has a four story mezzanine with pool and waterfall. I'll be setting up on the 2nd floor looking out over it. There is no way the Compact is covering that.

I'll be running a pair of JBL EON612's through a Bose T1 mixer, and playing to people I can hardly see. It's going to be different, that's for sure. I'll have to bring my big voice!
