Default I Already Have A Dreadnought Jr2, Should I Still Get A 0015M / 00015M?

Hi Guys. I am having GAS as there’s a 25% discount for both the Martin 0015M and 00015M at the Martin guitar outlet in the City State where I live. Since my Dr Jr2 is full solid Sapele, does it make sense to get a 0015M? I understand that Sapele is a cheaper alternative to Mahogany and I find that I really like the tone of the Sapele. It is actually this Dr Jr2 that made me realize just how good the Martin tone and workmanship is, although it is made in Mexico. I’ve always wanted a Made in US Martin.

Those of you who own (or used to own) either a 0015M or 00015M, please tell me just how much you like/love your guitar and why? If I take the plunge and buy this guitar, I may have to sell 2 or 3 of my cheaper guitars later to justify this purchase (in my wife’s eyes). Used 15 series are hard to come by and buying new is my preference. I’ve been eyeing this 2 models for about 3-4 months already. It costs 2.4 times more than a Dr Jr2.

My plan is to go play and try out the Martin 0015M and 00015M again very soon. I went once on a weekend and the guitar shop was too crowded to really assess them properly. Btw, there is no refund (return) policy if I change my mind about the guitar purchase.

I would love to hear your views on how good the 0015M and 00015M is? Is the Dreadnought Junior 2 and the 0015M too similar that it doesn’t make sense having both? Thanks!

You must realize that this forum could just as well be named ''the guitar buying enablers forum'' right? So, of course, you should get a new guitar!

To me, the Dread jr feels kind of like playing a Martin 00. So, I think you should look at the 000. You'll love it. It's a big upgrade!

Used to have an 0015. Now I have a 000-15. For me the 000 size is perfect. The 000-15 is my Excalibur. I will be buried with it. (Hopefully many years from now). It is the perfect acoustic guitar. Everone needs a 000-15.

i have both the 0015m and the 00015m as well as other acoustics(just so you know i'm not just stuck on mahogany). both are excellent guitars and are seen quite often used so look that route. the 0015m has become my songwriting partner as it doesn't get in the way of my arranging and singing my songs as i write them. the 00015m is about as comfortable as the 0015m but with more bass. play them both at the stores and find one used.

edit: i see that you do want to buy new. sign up for GC, musician's friend, maury's, sweetwater, as well as the AGF sponsors, etc. so that around xmas you can check the prices and hopefully get a good deal.

play music!

Do it. The difference between your current Martin and a USA made 000-15m/00-15m will be major.

I have played a few of the Martin Jr 2 and they are nice but they are not a 15 series. I really wanted a 00-15.....just because. But everytime I demoed one and then a 000-15M beside it I preferred the bigger sound of the 000 size. Because you have a smaller bodied guitar get the 000-15M, I absolutely love mine.

No. Diversify. If you have a need to buy, get something totally different. Thank me later.

The 15 series is not made of Sapele.

I would choose the 000-15M.

I would check with an AGF sponsor before buying.

I have a 000-15 from a few years ago when they were still all mahogany. It is my favorite, fits my crummy singing voice and has tone to spare. However today I did stop at my local GC and they had a used -000-17 in some type of burst top and it was very nice too.

Yes! Either one would be an excellent choice. My personal preference would be the 000-15

Two thumb up for the 00-15M. It did not overwhelm me when I first got it. Impressed yes, life changed? Perhaps not. But ..... the more I play it the better I like it. String change made a HUGE difference. Really like the sound now. I play a Taylor 816ce when I want to be 'formal'. Kinda like driving a big limo. But the 00-15M is for 'fun'.

Not a very scientific description and I like both guitars a lot. 00-15M seems to be strumming friendlier by just a hair.
