Eastman SB59v

Anyone has experience with above. Looking for a Les Paul but not interested in Gibson. This model seems pretty well regarded and equivalent to a custom model for a fraction of the cost...

Eastman makes great guitars, but I'm not lovin' that price...

Check out the D'Angelico lineup. The "Deluxe" level Atlantics are very very nice. They don't look like a Les Paul, but they come with Seth Lovers, and coil splitting. $1,300 new with a hard case.

I have a "335" D'angelico (called the DC) from the price point below the Deluxe, and I have to tell you, it's a great guitar!

That model Eastman is awesome. I spent a couple hours on one. Very impressed.
I would have bought it but I was offered a ridiculous deal on a used Yamaha rs 820cr straight after I put it back on the wall. It sold pretty quick.

Yamaha Revstars should be available around you. Their made in Japan models are still less than the Eastman! Great guitars!

I have played one of the Eastmans a bit and they are great sounding guitars! I thought they were on par with a Gibson. Another consideration for you may be a Gretsch Jet. Their Japanese pro models and players editions are very nice! They may be a bit brighter in tone than the Eastman, but certainly worth a look.

I love a "bright" sounding Gibson/solidbody humbucker guitar! Use the tone knob to get where you want to be, and when you want some more cut, turn it up!

That's one of the things I love about my D'angelico. It is brighter than any 335 I've ever played or heard. By a lot.

Glob, have you considered LTD, like a LTD EC-1000? I have one with Seymour Duncan JB/59 but it doesn't sound like my Les Pauls.

If you're looking for that true Les Paul tone it's going to be difficult to find other than going to Gibson. Why are you not interested in Gibson? Price?

I've seen youtube videos showcasing the Eastman SB59V, and they've all been very favorable.

I think the Eastman sounds very good and just as good as some of the A/B comparisons I've seen on youtube.

I'll never ever drop $2k on a guitar like that because of resale value.

I personally always look at resale value when buying any guitar.

I'd rather find a very good used Gibson for that price.

If resale value is not a consideration in the future, then I say go for the Eastman.
