I have but I lean slightly towards the Hendy for acoustic and the Sebatron for vocals.

Speaking of the Sebatron VMP 4000e...

l personally take credit for starting the "Sebatron Buzz" around here and that was a while back. I put the earworm into jim1960s head, as I was already familiar with one of his favorite pres (the Demeter), and I knew he would get what I like about the Sebatron. As I told my good friend, forum member Midwinter, if I was to start all over again purchasing preamps. I would start with 8 channels of Sebatron! And I own some pretty good preamps, so that's saying a lot. If you asked Midwinter's opinion he would probably tell you the same thing.

I absolutely love it on acoustic guitar, and no, it's not colored like a Neve, or UA, what goes in, is what comes out, but in a pleasant way Sometimes when I go to my studio to for just routine cleaning, I plug my phone into a any pair or preamps in this rack which are all routed through the RME ADI-8...

I listen to audio books with it, and all sorts or music. Well after plugging that phone into everything in the rack, I started getting an even better feel for what those pres really sound like. And the Sebatron always wins for the best to listen to music through. If it was in anyway too colored, I doubt it would do so well. Funny thing, when I was uploading the picture for you I could clearly see my phone cord was plugged into the Sebatron

It's butter.

It's not transparent. It's not SUPER colored. I can't make it saturate. It's just got a "sheen" that is amazing.

I also kind of like that the VMP-4000 doesn't have meters. Just use your ears. Turn it up until it sounds right.
You can't make it saturate because you need to attenuate the outputs of the Sebatron instead of hitting the Drawmer DL441 like you do. If you want saturation, just get a one of these for each pair of channels you want to attenuate...

The Drawmer is more of a auto peak limiter and light compressor for when you have too many signals to keep your eyeballs on. It's not something to hit hard.

All my Drawmers are in bypass by default. I only turn them on if Shane is going nuts.

Ha! Luckily, the drummers we've been using play pretty quietly. Shane, on the other hand....

I went off the Sebatron website. I changed it to reflect the price at SoundPure.

I have a few unusual outboard devices:

Preamps
Trident 80B - dual channel strip with EQ
Ted Fletcher P10 - dual channel strip, EQ and Compressor
(3) Neumann V476b (these were used by Radio Berlin in the 70s)

500 series
Neve Shelford 5051 (pair) - EQ and Compressor

Unless what I'm seeing is wrong, these are not 500 series modules but require a special chassis instead of a standard 500 rack.

I'm confused, what does "mic'ing the guitar" (a recording method) have to do with a list of outboard Pre's, Comp's ,EQ's (equipment) ????

Nice catch. I completely missed that comment last night. I was focued on adding nsureit's gear, then I saw midwinter lust-filled admiration of the Neve Shelford and started wondering how much money this thread cost him ...never noticed 6L6's post.
