I have to agree. I've heard and played a couple of cedar Taylors and they have sounded wonderful.

Breedlove Masterclass or Focus come to mind or Furch like others have said, if you could stretch a few hundred more a Goodall would be awesome! Carter Vintage has a Cedar topped CJ with a pickup for a decent price.

I would agree with James Olson for the best. But for us real people with real budgets, Dermot McIlroy!

I'm not sure what they go for new but I took a Huss & Dalton MJC in trade years ago that was nothing short of sublime. It was cedar over EIR and I was quite shocked at just how great that guitar sounded. I know Toby Walker is a big fan of the H&D MJC having played one live for years.

The cedar/walnut CM is my favorite of the Breedlove models. I have played a number of them. Furch also does a wonderful job with cedar.

Based on guitars I've owned, I'd suggest a used Lowden as my first choice in that price range with Avalon as a close second with McIlroy third.

Yep, I've owned its cousin, the 514ce. Beautiful tone and my favourite Taylor by a mile.

Have to agree. My main guitar is a 1993-94 Olson dreadnought - EIR/Cedar and it was only $3050 back then. I like the Furch guitars I've played a lot, and they are in the specified price range. And in 1999 I bought a Taylor 714ce, which is amazing. It was so nice, and my gigging partner bought it from me, and still owns it. |

My Lowden O22 was an outstanding Cedar topped guitar. The only Taylor I should have kept was a GS7 (Cedar/EIR) that was good for a lot of different playing styles. And also the Eastman E2D-CD/E2OM-CD are really good examples at ridiculously inexpensive price points.

I'd definitely consider a yellow or red series Furch. I have a cedar OM in the blue series, which is well under the budget you list but it's a lovely sounding guitar and beautifully crafted.

Take a look at a Godin Metropolis. The guitar sounds amazing and also comes with a standard LR Baggs Anthem Pickup. You can look at the Godin Metropolis
Natural Cedar or the Godin Metropolis Anthem EQ that comes in a Havana burst.

My Larrivee L03 custom was about half your price range and is wonderful. Cedar top EIR B/S

I don't own one, but a Furch Yellow GA cedar top has been in my sights for a while.
