I stumbled onto this cat, Ben Lacy, while researching a Tonewood amp.

I think whoever played electric guitar on Dead Kennedy's 'holiday in Cambodia' - this is a very accomplished piece of work equal to anything Slash, Jimmy Page etc has done.

Also the session acoustic guitarist on Neil Diamond's version of Mr Bojangles.

Genius at work...

Guy I like the best currently is Sharkey McEwen of the Grand Slambovians (aka Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams).

Wonderful guitarist in the classic rock tradition. Plays just what the song needs. Not super flashy, but really good.

I've long admired Robert Bowlin for his smooth and wonderful flat picking and also hybrid picking. He has played with Will Maring (female song writer) for many years.
So smooth and lyrical, I would certainly place him in this thread. Here's a live clip of some of his virtuosity...."Django's Waltz"

https://youtu.be/g18S6onJMxA

And, one more with one of his originals.....so smooth!

Great tune! The Smoker’s Song is funny, too. Thanks for introducing me!

What a wonderful song and singer...and OHHHH the sound of a Guild jumbo 12 string, in this case a Hoboken F-212XL.

The sound of a Guild 12'er...absolutely the all time iconic standard...

I think that a lot of great guitar players are well known to us, but not to the general public. Lots of examples have come up already like Leo Kottke, Pete Hutlinger, but you could add Tommy Emmanuel, Jimmy Capps, Doyle Dykes and others I'm sure. Criminal indeed.

James Calvin Wilsey RIP.

The moment I heard his clean Stratocaster tones accompanying the voice of Chris Isaak were the beginnings of me wanting to learn guitar and my musical journey as a whole.

Deke Dickerson and Kenny Vaughan are amazing others that I know of that probably aren't that famous. (Not here in Australia anyway).
