I paid $450 for my MIM Tele. Got it from the AGF classified.
Playing it at the local Flea Market with the Huckleberries today.
Instead of my Tweed Deluxe or Deluxe Reverb, I’ll use my 50 watt
PRS H series through Jensen MOD 12”. It has the proper headroom
And clarity for a Tele.

Many thanks both. Pricewise now I am looking at £329 for the cheapest deal on the vibe and £489 for the Player.

Default Chapman prefers the Squire...

...but you need to test drive both.

As has been mentioned...it’s always best to go with your preference without allowing the price tag or name sway you. Whatever you feel is the guitar you’d most prefer (based on fit/finish, tone, etc.), and that best suits you in general...that’s the one to get.

I’ve had buyers remorse more than once. In some instances it could have been avoided had I spent the extra $$ at the time. In the end, some of those deals cost me more in the long run then it would’ve if I’d of just bought the guitar I wanted to begin with.

Enjoy the hunt. That’s a lot of the fun!

Default Buy once

While the Player Series is more $$ than you were planning on spending, there is NOTHING on that guitar you'll be wanting to upgrade anytime soon. The fact that you noticed such a marked difference as a complete newb to electrics is telling. Buy the better guitar and then start looking for a second job to afford a decent tube amp. There is powerful chemistry between a tele and a good tube amp (for me at least)

Ha very good. Yes you are on my wavelength. I will bear all your excellent advice in mind.
This week I intend to try other examples in other stores and then take the plunge next week. The Player in Tide blue from the first store is kind of the benchmark for my situation.

Default update

So yes I went to check out the two guitars again at a different store and the opposite happened. I preferred the Vibe this time but neither was as good as in the previous store so i left. Then i remembered a little guitar shop in the city bit out of the way where i had once taken a guitar to have a set up and remembered they sold electrics and acoustics. Went onto the website and there it was, the Vibe, my Vibe and even a video of a guy playing it in a demo. Jumped in a taxi and settled the deal. Lovely guitar beautifully set up and plays so easily with 10s. No regrets whatsoever about the Player. Thanks to all you folks for the great advice. Pays to take your time and weigh everything up and if you can try the guitar its so much easier.

Congratulations. My buddy who owns an American made Tele just bought a Squire. He is playing it live and loving it.

Congratulations on your guitar. It's identical to mine and I paid £250 s/h from eBay about 2 years ago. Despite what some people say I've never wished that I paid more for a Mexican or US Telecaster. Mine is quite heavy at 9 pounds but it doesn't really bother me. I paid £50 for a good setup and I love playing the guitar. Hope you enjoy yours like I enjoy mine.

I was reading some discussion elsewhere from pros who’ve been through many electric guitars and who have the ability to explain things clearly in writing, and with solid body electric guitars like the telecaster there is a consistent recognition of how well the neck and body join via bolt on which determines the quality of resonance of the guitar, particularly in allowing for the bass to vibrate freely and be picked up and amplified by the pickups. The Squier Classic Vibe has a pine body with maple neck with consistent reports of quality materials - good recipe for good performance.

Congratulations
