Default What is your favorite OM ?

Many here on AGF are gravitating toward smaller body guitars.

What is your favorite OM and why?

Do you prefer OM or OOO body size?

Thanks!

Tough question to answer because I really love them all. Almost all of my guitars fall into the OM or 000 category. My favorite is probably my Circa OM-28, which is well-balanced, has gorgeous overtones, and huge headroom. John is building his OMs with a taller X brace, which puts more emphasis on volume, projection, and mids. It does take some time for the bass to come in. Mine has really sweetened in the 2 years since I bought it.

I love my two 000 12 fret guitars, but they are slightly different beasts. They both have a bit more bass than my OMs and a rounder attack. Especially my Circa 000. The Schoenberg/Klepper has a bit more bite.

They are the same size. The differences are in scale length and perhaps nut-width, but the body dimensions of an OM and a OOO are the same.

I have a Martin style OM and a Somogy style OM. Both are entirely different beasts and both are favorites.

Well, I can only say that my favorite OM is the one I have: Martin OM-18e

MJ Franks OM Lagacy, just a wonderful experience to play it.
My Stonebridge OM deep body is also an amazing guitar to play.

Both play true up and down the neck and both exhibit an incredible amount of sustain, volume and harmonic content. The MJ Franks is a bit darker in tone while the Stonebridge has a lighter more modern sound.

Glad I don’t have to choose between them

My OM28 is a wonderful guitar. I prefer mahogany, but this rosewood number sings so sweetly. Perfect for singer/songwriter style that I do. A classic.

I foolishly sold the OM-21 that remains my favorite. A mid-80's build, it was wonderfully tuneful, easy to play, and well broken-in. I have moved to mostly 12 fret short scale 00's but still miss that OM.

My favorite OM is my only one that I have which I recently purchased, a Martin OM -21 special. What I like about it is as much about the size and type of guitar as it is about the particular model itself. I'm a fairly big guy at 6'4" with a long reach so I can easily play large size guitars but I find the OM size to be ideal. First of all it's very comfortable to play in any position. You never feel like you have to reach a long ways or adjust your posture to compensate for it's body and it works easily standing or sitting in different types of chairs or couches. I've had much bigger guitars that could feel much different to play depending on how they sat on your lap and the OM size seems to fit every position well without a lot of adjustment. I don't find I have to give up much at all in terms of volume either. Not I'm not playing in a jam or anything, but compared to other guitars I've had and played in the same environment, it's just a loud. The OM size is perfect for fingerstyle which is most of what I do but it's a great size for music that you would use a pick, whether strumming or playing runs. This is probably more information than you were looking for but I can't see not having an OM in the future.

My Yamaha LS56 (though it may be closer to a "concert" size).

I do own many, from different builders (Seagull, Eastman, Guild, Larrivee,
Taylor Martin and Gibson), in addition to some nylons.

I play only fingerstyle and I prefer the orchestra format for two reasons :
personal comfort and 0,012" string gauge since my brittle nails cannot
resist to higher gauge strings.

Picked up a used Boucher Studio Goose (SG-21) from Roger Schmidt at Brickhouse Guitars. Adi/Bubinga and a wonderful instrument. In my lap as I write this and this is the guitar:

I have a particular affinity for my Webber OM, it's just so resonant with a beautiful tone. I also played a Larrivee OM-40 at a local store that really made me contemplatie throwing my wallet down for it. I wanted it so badly, but I had to resist.
