Invigorated by WILS, I got right back to work. The JB-CN has sealer, pore filler, and its first coat of oil varnish. It'll start to look great at coat 4, assuming it will at all. . . . which I do.

That Koa backstrip against the BRW is stunning…it’s absolutely perfect!

Thanks to both previous comments! I consider Koa a bit soft for binding, but it looks SO good. Hopefully a kind and gentle person will end up with this piece.

A fellow only hair younger than I am brought me a board he bought in the early '80's and asked me if I would be willing to re-saw it in exchange for a bit of it. I think I will. Sausage at one end and Tortoise at the other! 10 sets, if we're lucky (and skilled!).

I'll probably only get one set for my trouble. But I do love figuring out a cutting strategy and then realizing it. Or maybe I'll get two, as he has another similar board. This board should yield 9 sets,: 4 D and 5 000/OM including sides. 3 sets should be flitch matched, if I deliver as I hope to.

You could make plenty of Ukes from the slabs.

You may recall that a few years ago I did make an all-tree Uke. Back/sides/top/neck! It came out very well sound-wise. I am no longer interested in ukes. I have sawn wood for ukes here which I want to get rid of. About 10 for all-Koa, perhaps 6 for all-walnut, and a couple for all-catalpa. I do think that my one all-catalpa Uke is the best of the dozen or so I’ve made. If I can find someone who wants it all, it will be a VERY sweet deal for them.

Some of you will recall that like many of my peers, I started with solid body electric guitars. I have my 5th guitar ever, though I have not played it for many years. . .until a couple of days ago. Much to my surprise (for some reason) it is much a better instrument than I remembered. It even has a 1 3/4 wide nut! Also, it is what is now called "chambered", though I didn't realize that till yesterday when I took the padded leather back of for the first time in at least 30 years. It is made from something called "Mansonia". I used it because it was less expensive that walnut, at the time. It is also far harder.

I used this as my main ax for at least ten years, so I shouldn't't have been so surprised that it plays like an old friend. Here are a couple of pics. I'll get a body shot for you (and me) soon.

And here is the JB-CN with its 4th coat, dry and ready to scuff for the net coat.

Here are body shots of my #005. The inset leather back was my first guitar innovation ever, not counting the guitar designs themselves. And the tailpiece is the second: aluminum and BRW. The pick-ups are genuine D'Armonds. The tuners are Grover Rotomatics, made in the USA.
