These rulers are great, these most recent ones have a zero center point also. I just stocked up on a half a dozen.

Default Humidification

Humidification is very important. I have 2 of these in my shop to maintain 50%
I have one of them with an automatic inlet valve. It was modified and purchased from a Humidor site that doesnt seem to sell them anymore. I have a spare valve that I will put in the 2nd one some day

Well, my plane finally showed up today after being delayed for about a week en route.

Seems pretty solid overall, but it's missing one of the screws from the back handle (I know it has a special name, but it escapes me). Of course, apparently, this is a 10-20 screw which nobody has. The auction said nothing was loose... I guess we have different definitions of loose.

Oh bother.

Tool restoration is a different pursuit than guitar making. If digging through old tools and tool restoration interests you, go for it. Like anyone purchasing antiques, one needs to know enough about what one is purchasing to distinguish between decorations and functional tools.

Otherwise, it is best to purchase tools that are known to be in functional condition when purchased. If one doesn't have the necessary knowledge, one way of doing that is to purchase new. If one purchases less expensive new tools one can still expect to spend a few hours in fettling those. More expensive new tools are usually ready to use out of the box, but for honing the blade.

I do tend to take on too many things...

Other than the missing screw it seems good. A bit of minor pitting here and there. But the bottom is nice and flat. The iron doesn't have any big nicks, and the first few centimeters on the under side are smooth and flat, a couple of tooling marks past that.

I should have it up and running this weekend with a loaner screw from my other plane.
