Some rock and roll on my 8 string 1960 Fender Stringmaster

This was the first time I tried using gain on this guitar and handled it ok...

That was fun. Was intrigued by an 8 string and was surprised by what it was. But I enjoyed it!

You a fan of Ben Harper? His weissenborn playing is crazy good and this reminded me of him.

Nice! Do I detect a little David Gilmore influence in there? He was one of my lap steel influences as well. Here's an art rock piece I did the guitars and engineering on back in 2009. The lap steel is a Gretsch Electromatic G5715 and the guitar is a G&L S-500. There are three solos tucked in there.

Thank you for your kindness! I've loved those dual-neck Fenders since Steve Howe took his out on tour. He actually had a three-neck as well, if I remember right.

I've got a 1960 D8 and a 1957 T8...great guitars! I'm selling both of them to fund another single neck 8 string steel I'm having built and a custom made Strat.

Good eye Bob. That's a 1940 EH-185 with a Charlie Christian pickup. It's a great sounding guitar, but a whole different vibe from my 1940 Panda. The Panda has a lot of soul and character and growl when you want it. The EH-185 is sweeter and has a pretty tone for Hawaiian music, etc. If I could only have one or the other, it would be the Panda.

That's an interesting way to put it and the videos I've seen would confirm that. Do you get a lot of calls for non-pedal steel? You certainly have the bases covered!

My main use of non-pedal is a ministry I have playing for the homeless and feeding them, and playing for the elderly at nursing homes. I have a lot of solo arrangements of tunes like Over The Rainbow, What A Wonderful World, etc. and a bunch of hymns that I play.

However, after posting this video Cuba's best rock & roll band, Sweet Lizzy Project, asked to play on their next album. That will be fun. Here are a couple of their tunes. The second song was written while they were in Cuba trying to get to the United States. Hang in till 2:40 in that second video where they start rocking out...
