I think that his original intent would have made a much more interesting thread.
OP here - agreed, but then again a lot of the "off topic" posts are a fun read in their own way,

There are many songs that impacted me profoundly so that they would qualify as making the gist of the OP - but truth be told I love a good cry so I listen to them whenever I'm feeling blue and actually playing them is therapeutic for me because they let the emotions pour out of me where usually I would be unable to. "Tears in Heaven" is one of those songs, as is "Father and Son" by Cat Stevens, "Vincent" by Don MacLean, "Leader of the Band" by Dan Fogelberg, "The Heart of the Matter" by Don Henley and a number of others that simply don't pop into my head as I type this.

That being said, there are some songs that I used to love but then fell way out of love with them. They still show up in my iTunes shuffle and I get that same uncomfortable feeling that I get whenever I thing of my ex girlfriends. You know the feeling; it's usually accompanied by the phrase "what was I even thinking?"

Lady GaGa is a fantastic singer but that affectation she's putting on her voice is not my favorite. It's like she's doing an impression of old-timey singing.

Ok, I don't know her singing or her , well enough to speculate if it's affectation over artist interpretation ...... And don't see the relationship of that to the quality of the mics .???????????????????

And speaking of Chet, Still Can't Say Goodbye is definitely on the list of too-emotional-to-get-through songs.

Oh, I see that now.

In that case, since today Mom is being buried next to Dad, this one:

Default Puff the Magic Dragon

As a little kid I thought it was about poor Puff being abandoned. Too young to know or understand the real meaning. I still avoid it to this very day.
I know I know…pretty pathetic😂

I had a song I could not listen to at all, because it caused such an emotional response. It reminded me of a very painful time in my life. If I was anywhere (restaurant, club, office building anywhere - ) I would have to get up and leave the room if the song played. A friend of mine suggested something that I at first thought was crazy - buy the record (yeah, record -- it was a while back) and play it over and over. The result was that, after only a few days, I was able to separate the song from the event, emotionally.

Smile

For me there are two categories- songs that make me cringe and songs I have just tired out.
Too many to list but one that sticks out is Freebird -
Too long, too droning, too much airplay.
That should draw some fire
