Thanks guys. It’s a Bearclaw European/Makore 00 (long scale) that a student built taking one of our classes. Not too shabby for a first guitar.

No it’s not too shabby! And it sounds wonderful. Good job Craig!

When Tom B’Sox visited the shop on Friday, he saw this guitar that was about to ship out to a non-AGF customer. He thought people would like to see it, so here’s a couple of pics. It’s Sitka spruce with some bearclaw and Spanish Cedar with a basket weave mottle to it. Hope you like it.

Thanks.

That's some of the most amazing bearclaw I've ever seen!

And that Spanish Cedar's got it going on too!

Gorgeous guitar!

Yes indeed, Bro. Since the Spanish Cedar grew in Hawaii, it seemed fitting to trim it out in another Hawaiian wood. Plus, we liked the way the browns complimented each other.

As stunning as this is in pictures, it is more so in person. The Spanish Cedar was like nothing I had seen before, just tremendous. Someone is going to be Very happy with this one and I already told the boys, if they are not, they were free to give the client my number!!!

I know I am just repeating what others have said, but wow that is just stunning. Nice work guys! That is probably the prettiest bearclaw spruce I have ever seen.

Question: how would a Spanish Cedar guitar handle high humidity and temperature relative to mahogany?

Jamie, Spanish Cedar (like almost all “cedars” from the Americas) is not a real cedar. It is similar in many ways to Honduran mahogany and is quite stable - especially when dried well and taken care of. I’m sure if we did some industrial testing we would realize that genuine mahogany is probably significantly stronger in most respects. However, it can typically be used interchangeably in guitars.

One side bonus is that if Spanish Cedar does get more humidity, it will be more redolent.

Haha. Thanks Matt!

Also, some of you may want to see the demo of a guitar we took to BIG that received a pretty good reception.

Thanks for watching!
