It's been over 40 years since I've been back to Brooklyn, so I had to look at Google Maps to see where that is. My parents moved out of Brooklyn was I was a teen in the early 1970's. We were on 36th street near Ave S.

We moved to Jersey in '62. I took the kids there maybe 10 years ago and it was very surreal. The buildings and the streets were the same but the neighborhood was very different. I took them down to Coney Island too and it was nothing like I remembered it. What a long strange trip it's been.

My parents moved us down to Ocean County NJ in 1972. I lived down in that area until 2010 when I moved down to Maryland due to the DOD BRAC. I'm reading a book about Paul Simon now. He was born in Newark NJ and moved to Queens NY as a kid.

Thanks for posting this - heard it last night on another link, and was reminded how much I love that tune... I loved how Paul did this, recorded on a phone video, with the birds singing counterpoint and "free jazz" to this iconic song...

An American Tune, indeed... this one, along with "America" from Bookends, paint a poignant portrait of this country of ours...

One of the very few true musical geniuses in popular music. A troubled soul from all accounts but oh how the man can put into words what we all feel, with honesty and clarity.

.....and a fine guitar player too!

This tune touched me deeply when it was first released, and still does today. His masterpiece!
