Default Help! GAS Attack

I am in they throws of a severe GAS attack, and as we all know there is no cure and only one remedy. Buy a new guitar irrespective of whether or not you need a new guitar. I am torn between two a Martin Special D in Sitka/Ovangkol, and a Blueridge BR 160A, which is in Adarondak/Rosewood. Please help or I may end up with both guitars and a divorce.

Sorry but no one is going to help hou here buddy.
Everyone will be rooting for the twin guitar & divorce option just so we dont feel bad about our own behaviour.

If you can't get a NOS Gibson J-15, I'd go with the Blueridge in this price range - other than the all-hog 15-Series and Authentics I'm not impressed with the current CFM IV & Co. stable...

Not to deter you from buying a guitar but wait a week to see if something else pops up too.

Are you considering those guitars because you've played them and like them or just going off reviews?

Does it really matter?

And Jim, even in today's paranoid times, there is no GAS mask made that can help you. It's unstoppable and incurable.

If the Martin Special D is the one for $999.99 from Guitar Center, I would go with the Blueridge. I looked at a few videos of the BR160A and it would be a lot more guitar for your money. The only thing I don't like about the Blueridge is the pickguard, but that could be easily changed if you want.

Not wanting to muddy the waters, but have you looked at the Eastman E20D? It's very similar to the BR160A. Eastmans get a lot of love on this forum.

No, that’s the Sitka/ Sapele model. That one just doesn’t float my boat. I agree with you about the pick guard. To me it’s just out of place.

In that price range, I'd get a Larrivee D-03 or possibly L-03 and never look back (predictable if you look at my sig.). IMHO, they're comparable in quality to any Martin going for twice the price.

I just looked at the Martin Sitka/Ovangkol. That's a much nicer guitar than the sitka/sapele one. Now I understand your dilemma. In this case, I would probably favor the Martin over the BR 160A. However, in my post above (which I edited) I also suggested the Eastman E20D. That's a really nice guitar as well. Whatever you choose, good luck!

+1 as a new owner of a Larrivee. Great guitar at any price.

No guitar is worth a divorce or family dispute. Save up and get a grail later when money is not as much of a factor. Take your wife on a nice trip when this COVID situation passes, or buy her a piece of jewelry or flowers, or take her out to a nice dinner instead. Guitars will always be there. Good wives -- no guarantees.
