Default Thoughts on Avalon Guitars?

I’ve been offered an Avalon Americana Jumbo style as a trade for my Martin 0-18
https://www.avalonguitars.com/americana/XL340A

I’ve not heard of them before, but looking into them, they look great. As they are not very common in Australia, I’m unsure if it’d be a fair trade or not.

Avalons are well-respected guitars, built, as I recall, in the Irish tradition. It's been years since I have played one. And I can't speak to their value relative to your D18 - other than to say the two should be quite different. I hope someone here can speak more directly about the two.

The best built guitar I have ever owned n' reeks of quality. I have owned MANY high end guitars and Avalon build is impecible. I cannot say enough good about these guitars except they are kina sleepers since they are not as well known as say lowden.. Another is in my future...The are small builder of around 6 employees and work in the original location where Lowens were built. Reach out if you have any questions. Also...just saw that you are being offered an Americana....look on Youtube as there are a few videos of folks playing them.

I've never got my hands on one but I would love to try one out. I first noticed them when I saw Jim Corr (of the Irish pop-folk group, The Corrs) playing one in several videos. It looked and sounded beautiful.

Owned one for as long as it took to sell it. Wonderful guitar and very well made
but the neck was so huge I couldn't play it - and I like the Martin Vintage Series 'V' neck shape. The Avalon neck reminded me of one of those 'baseball bat' necks like some of the old Telecasters and Les Pauls.

I've played several Avalons -- good guitars -- but haven't heard of their Americana series. With the maple B/S and jumbo size, it's of course going to be very different than your 0-18.

It would IMO be a fair trade, but it's more a question of whether you want to go in that direction -- big change.

I had an Avalon Ard Ri for a while. it was a very, very nicely built guitar.
I haven’t actually heard a negative thing about Avalon.

I have an Avalon Ard Ri L2-320, excellent guitar (16" lower bout). I like a modified low oval neck profile and this model Avalon fits right in there.

Here's a tune with mine:

I took a chance on the D300 Americana earlier this year. So glad I did. Absolutely love it and it stomped on any other j45 style I tried in even close to the same price range.

The new Avalons are good guitars. It will be dramatically different from your 018, is that what you are looking for?

I owned an Avalon Ard Ri for a while, and it still resonates in my head. It has such character!
